Grounded in Story … and soil! - Moriarty-inspired tree planting

At the 2024 John Moriarty Festival in Moyvane, the organisers committed to plant a native Irish tree for every copy of the newly-launched ‘John Moriarty: Grounded in Story’ sold over the Festival weekend.

We are delighted to share that schools and communities around Ireland have been busy planting these trees in recent times.

Trees were planted by the following wonderful national schools, and we congratulate the pupils and their teachers on their dedication and hard work: Athea, Moyvane, Knockanure, New Quay, Ballyguiltenane, Lenamore and Athlacca. A selection of images from the various planting sessions is presented below.

We are also honoured to receive a letter of thanks from Principal Margaret Watters of Athea National School, who writes that “it is our intention in Athea School to ensure the lives of the pupils are enriched by studying the books and poems of John and learning more about his thoughts and desires through the writing of Amanda Carmody, his niece, and Mary McGillicuddy.”

Check out the beautiful images below and thank you to all involved in sourcing, distributing and planting the trees.
